Last week, my friend, and criminal defense attorney, Diane Regan, passed away suddenly. Her office was in El Centro, California. We often collaborated on cases together.
Diane was both a very good human being and defense attorney. So many of her clients have called me with stories about acts of Diane’s kindness including bringing food to the client’s family and treating clients “like they were her own son.”
Diane worked in several courtrooms, including the federal courthouse on Adams Avenue in El Centro, California, the jail court at the Imperial County Jail, and State court in Brawley. She was like the “energizer bunny” darting between courthouses, but still always taking the time to represent her client zealously and compassionately.
Diane was fluent in Spanish, and in my opinion, the best criminal defense attorney working in the Imperial Valley. Her loss will continued to be felt by her many friends and colleagues, and of course, her clients.
I have decided to focus more of my practice on the El Centro area including Mexicali, Calexico, and all of the valley. There is now a void of attorneys like her who have more than twenty-years experience and who love the desert and the border culture.
I have thirty five years of criminal experience. Ever since my childhood, I have spent a great deal of time in the desert, including frequent visits to my parents home when they had a second residence there. And I am fluent in Spanish.
I hope to be able to carry on Diane’s legacy of providing the highest quality of criminal defense in both federal and state cases to the greater El Centro region. I will continue to concentrate on drug and narcotic cases including methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, heroin and drug mule cases.
My life was enriched by having known Diane. She is one of the few attorneys whom I completely trusted and for whom I had total respect. Goodbye to you my very special friend!
